Thanks Dogged for a great article
Remember one thing this election day. That is “It’s about the economy”.
That’s right, it is. What fuels our economy is oil that gets pumped from oil wells. The democrats have, for thirty years, stopped any new drilling for oil in this country. They continue to block oil exploration to this day. Congress, which is controlled by the Democrat majority, would not even allow a vote on drilling for our own natural resource, oil. Instead, they closed congress and went on a paid 5 week vacation. After all, it’s not their problem. They aren’t paying for their own gas. They drive cars that use fuel paid for by all tax payers. No wonder they don’t care what it costs.
They say drilling for oil is bad for the environment. We might have an oil spill, so we can’t drill. They think we can only have a spill if we drill for oil. They think that one of the many ships transporting the oil cannot have a spill. To that, I say Exxon Valdez.
We can’t build new nuclear power plants because there might be an accident. No new coal power plants because they’d harm the air by creating green house gasses. They say we must find new fuels for the future. For the future, fine. We all agree about what we need for the future.
But, what about right now? The American people, and the American economy, need a manageable solution to meet their needs in the present.
They talk of Bush’s failed energy policy but have not come up with a plan that will help right now. They talk about solutions for TEN YEARS from now. They claim to have a plan, so where is it? Oh, they want to keep it for after the election. In the mean time, “we the people” have to suffer. Whose side are they on, anyway? Not the everyday working American people, because if they were they would not only share their so- called plan now, they would be implementing it.
They talk of using wind (in the future) but that’s nothing new. We’ve heard that before; along with how Ted Kennedy doesn’t want a wind farm off the coast because he likes to go sailing there so he has blocked all efforts to build it. Say, American worker, when was the last time you sailed your yacht? Or even taken your car for a joy ride to see that wonderful view that Teddy doesn’t want spoiled?
Matter of fact, what’s the last time you took a joy ride anywhere? Not too happy with the price of gas, are you? Barack Obama has already said he is OK with us paying $5.00 a gallon for gas. He’s just not happy at how fast it rose.
Obama’s advice to all of us whose wallets are not OK with $5.00 a gallon gas? His “plan” to get us through the wonderful ten years of waiting for alternative energy? The American public should lower their thermostats in the winter and raise them in the summer.
Some plan, isn’t it? Tell us to do what the price of fuel already made a necessity. Perhaps he thinks his additional hint (keep your tires properly inflated), will leave a few dollars left over for the taxes he will raise if he’s elected.
Plans that take ten years to achieve are not solutions. They’re goals. Having goals is fine. Making the American public suffer through ten years of paying the oil producing countries whatever they demand is not. America should never be dependant on the whims of other countries…and look at some of these countries. Some of them are known to be supporting terrorism. Russia is flexing their new found strength from oil money.
Ten years of being at the mercy of, and paying to support, our enemies. Good plan they have there.
They say, if we drilled, it will take ten years before we see any oil and it wouldn’t drop the price at all. Yet, after George Bush said he backed drilling off our coast the price dropped twenty dollars a barrel or $0.48 a gallon. Not bad for not having any effect at all. Apparently, the countries who are knowledgeable about drilling for oil do not share the Democratic Congress’ view on how long it would take us to produce our own. Interesting that they think we can do something that the Democrats tell us we can’t.
The question is why are the Democrats holding the American people hostage by not allowing the oil companies to drill for oil in our own country. They have said that they would sooner spend that money on alternate sources of energy.
News flash for the Democrats:
The government doesn’t pay for the drilling of an oil well. The oil companies pay the government for the right to drill. They also pay to drill the well and a royalty on every gallon.
We will need alternate sources of energy. Oil will not last forever. At some point in time, there will not be any oil. But in the mean time, let the oil companies spend their own money to drill for the oil that we need to keep our economy going and prices under control. It’s a win-win for the government and the people. The government gets income from the oil companies that can help fund developing alternate energy sources and the average American will be more able to afford changing to alternative fuels without suffering through ten years of a wallet draining energy crunch.
Frank Lautenberg bragged on a campaign ad over the summer that he stopped big oil from drilling off the coast of New Jersey. Funny thing about that ad. It only ran for a few weeks. I guess he’s really not that proud after all. Thanks Frank, my neighbor got an oil delivery recently. He paid over a THOUSAND DOLLARS to put only 200 gallons in his tank. You’re going to make a lot of voters real happy with you as they sit and freeze in their cold houses.
And that’s the new reality we face as winter approaches. Gas and diesel fuel for transportation is one thing. Heating costs are another. Americans have cut back on unnecessary driving. They’ve absorbed the increases that fuel prices have brought to everything they buy. But now they have to heat their homes for several months. People who heat their homes with oil are facing a major financial crisis.
Think about getting an oil delivery of 200 gallons or more at $4.00 a gallon. Many people will get a delivery like that every month. Some will need it every 2 weeks in the winter. I know of houses that use over a thousand gallons a month. What about businesses that use oil in the production of things? That’s going to do wonders for the economy. People who don’t have enough money to heat their homes do not have spare money to spend on anything else.
Thank You Very Much Democrats for your well thought out energy plans and not allowing any drilling for our own oil. So far you’ve driven up the price on almost everything that we eat, drink or use. BTW, next time you take one of those five week vacations, could you send us some postcards? Under your energy “plans”, they’ll be the closest a lot of us will get to a vacation for a long time.
One of the ads from Barack Obama complains that we are spending 10 billion dollars a month to fight a war on terror to keep safe, so that the horrors of Sept. 11 2001 do not return to our homeland. Notice that he doesn’t complain about the import of 10,400,000 barrels per day; 1.5 to 2 billion dollars a day we send to those who sell oil to us. That’s 45 to 60 billion dollars a month to buy something we have right here in our own country. That money could be spent right here drilling and refining our own oil.
Hmmm….
10 Billion dollars a month to keep us safe…bad thing.
40 – 60 Billion dollars a month to oil producing nations with some of it ending up in the pockets of terrorists…good thing.
Yep, with that kind of logic Senator Obama would definitely be a President who promotes change. Just not the type of change that’s particularly healthy for the future of the American citizens. The oil producing nations (and some terrorists) would be very happy, though.
Although…perhaps he’s thinking of the benefits of keeping them happy. After all, since he doesn’t believe in drilling, we need them happy. Unhappy, they might stop selling us oil. What would happen if the oil producing countries stopped selling oil to us? The strategic oil reserve would only last a short time. Then what? Perhaps we could switch quickly to running everything on Hot Air. The Dems produce an endless supply of that. Might as well put it to better use. So far, all it’s done is raise prices and hurt the economy.
The price increase has had an effect on the economies of all countries on earth. In most cases, not a good one. The only countries that are happy are those that are drilling for oil in their own countries and selling it. Even China is now drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, for what is really our oil but we can’t drill there. Our Democrat leaders won’t let us.
They block us from being energy independent. They do not allow the oil companies to drill. But then they say it’s all Bush’s fault. More interesting Democratic logic. Such convenient logic…just do what you want, regardless of the consequences, then blame someone else. The fault must always lie with someone else. After all, if it didn’t, they’d have to admit to being wrong…and they’re never, ever, wrong.
They said this country needing fixing and they wanted control so they could do it. We had a strong economy then; just 4.5 unemployment with minor inflation. They got control. The economy tanked. Energy crisis? Not their fault. Financial crisis? Not their fault. Skyrocketing unemployment? Nope…not their fault. Always someone else’s fault. Couldn’t be them.
More convenient logic….conveniently timed, anyway:
Now, with the election fast approaching, the Democrats are saying they support drilling. But once the voting is over, who knows? That support may reverse as quickly (and conveniently) as their support for the war.
The only thing that is certain is that, whatever happens and however the American public suffers because of it, the Democrats will assure us that it wasn’t their fault. Of course, if their candidate is elected, they won’t be pointing the finger of blame at their Democratic President. At first, it will continue to be at Bush. Later, when that gets ridiculously old, that finger will have to point elsewhere. Probably at the American taxpayer whose ever tightening wallet can not manage to provide for their families while supporting endless Democratic spending.
And, for once, they would have it right. If we vote for them and accept more of their plans and excuses that have hurt our great nation, it will be our fault.
God Bless America. May she go on for eons as the land of prosperity and independence. And may none of us ever have to look back on these less than bright days in her history and think that they could have been better and that they weren’t was our fault.
